Leonard Mardis is a native of Grenada, MS and graduate of Grenada High School.  Leonard attended Mississippi Valley State University from 1984-1985 and joined the United States Army, after the completion of his first year of college. While living in Germany from 1987-1998, he became a member of several dance companies and agencies throughout Europe.  These companies emphasized several dance styles to include, modern, jazz, ballet, hip-hop and African. Throughout his military service, Leonard has studied, taught, performed and choreographed for several plays, galas, competitions, and entertainment events in  America, Europe,  Asia and Africa.  Significant events to his credit include: 

 

        Choreographer and performer in “The Wiz” for the Frankfurt Playhouse in Frankfurt, Germany;

        Choreographer and performer with Mariah Carey in Koln, Germany;

        Choreographer and performer for the US Army Soldier show in Alexandria, VA (Fort Belvoir);

        Director, coordinator, and choreographer of a musical theater production involving Soldiers and Civilians while stationed

        in Baghdad, Iraq entitled “A Salute to Christ”.

        Instructor of a Master Hip-Hop  workshop in Selangor, Malaysia;

        Choreographer and performer for Pastor Brenda Jefferson of Deeper Life Ministries at the Tampa Christian Conference featuring:

        Kirk Franklin, LaRue, and Jamie Jones.

        Choreographer and performer on Royal Star Cruise in Mombasa, Madagascar and Zanzibar, Africa.

        Conducted Master Hip-Hop Workshop in Moscow, Russia.

 

Having been a dance instructor within the Brandon Community for over five years, and as Director of United Nations of Dance for over 15 years, Leonard’s vision to have a dance school and professional troupe of entertainers under one roof is now a reality. Leonard brings to the Brandon Community over 20 years experience and passion for the Arts.  Leonard retired from the Army in 2007, and holds a Master’s Degree in Administrative Management from Bowie State University.  He continues to educate and encourage the youth on the importance of higher education academically and throughout the Arts.
